Robert Kapp is the proud owner of American Self Storage, based out of Knightdale—a Raleigh suburb. Robert purchased his first facility in 2000 and has owned that store ever since, while adding 10 during the intervening years.
Robert got his start in storage as a side gig while he continued to work at GE building aircraft engines. After the purchase of his third store he took a leap of faith and started working in storage full-time, leaving a career at GE covering ten+ years. At present, Robert operates ten facilities in five NC markets
Robert has seen multiple market cycles, weathering down-turns and taking advantage of positive cycles for storage. Robert was an owner/operator for the majority of his company’s existence, only recently shifting focus on expansion and acquisition.
Robert has long been a pioneer in storage, and is an early adopter of new technologies including call-centers, kiosks, and the unmanned model. At present Robert is the seceruty of the NCSSA board and sits on the education committee for the SSA.
Robert lives in Cornelius NC with his wife Audrey and children. His interests include aviation, fishing, travel, and spending time with his children.
