ATTENTION NCSSA MEMBERS - ACTION NEEDED

UPDATED NCSSA LEASE

We wanted to reach out to clarify an issue we just learned about regarding the draft lease available to NCSSA members.

The NC law states as follows:

A rental contract for the storage of personal property in a self-service storage business shall state, in bold type of a minimum size of 14 points and conspicuously placed, the terms regarding the imposition of late fees, the terms regarding any consequences of a late payment, and the terms, if any, that pertain to the payment of court costs, attorneys’ fees, and any other costs associated with the payment of late fees or with judgment against the consumer for late rental payments of late fees.

It appears that some NCSSA members may have accessed from the website and may be using a version of the NCSSA lease without the required font size and conspicuous placement (bold type).

We strongly recommend that all NCSSA members review their rental agreement for compliance with the law above. If the rental agreement is not in compliance, we suggest reviewing this article about bringing your rental agreements into compliance.
